Casino bonus wagering explained: the 10x rule and how to do the maths

What wagering requirements mean, how the 10x cap works since January 2026 and the significant terms to read before you accept any bonus.

Since 19 January 2026, wagering on any gambling bonus in Great Britain is capped at 10 times the bonus. That makes offers simpler, but you still need to read the terms.

A worked example

Say you receive a £20 bonus with 10x wagering. You must place £200 in bets before you can withdraw winnings from that bonus. If slots count 100% but table games count 10%, playing only blackjack would need ten times as much play.

Significant terms to look for

  • Minimum deposit and whether some payment methods are excluded.
  • The wagering requirement — never above 10x.
  • Time limits for using the bonus and meeting wagering.
  • Maximum stake while the bonus is active.
  • Any cap on winnings.
  • Which games count, and by how much.

What is no longer allowed

Promotions that make you play different products — for example "bet on football to unlock casino spins" — are banned.

Our advice

If you cannot explain the terms in two sentences, skip the bonus. Playing without one is always an option.
